After sixteen years, I finally decided to trash my point-to-point shelf layout that occupies (should be occupied) three walls of a 12′ X 12′ room. This was no easy decision, but I decided to move forward with a new layout for a number of reasons. All of this was thought about after attending multiple sessions and engaging in numerous conversations at the recent NER Convention in Uniondale NY. Not in any particular order;
Easier to maintain
Continuous running vs. point-to-point
Downsizing to a smaller, more compact layout
I’m not getting younger- the new layout should be easier to operate and take apart down the road
While I’m dismantling the old layout, I’m still trying to save structures, accessories, wiring, scenery and track. This makes for slow going and requires a lot of TLC in the process. Not to say anything about the mess and dust! At this point, I have most of the old layout down and I think that I managed to save most of my harbor area. I’m not sure yet what the new configuration will be…I’ll just have to wait and see.
